Thor: Ragnarok is set to demonstrate how far the Norse God has progressed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Thor returned to our good books in Taiki Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, after two underwhelming solo films (the less said about The Dark World, the better).
Thor’s third feature was a breath of new air for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s no surprise that the New Zealand native has been invited to helm the God of Thunder’s next standalone adventure. At least, that’s how it appears on the surface. The second of Marvel’s Phase 4 films, set for release in 2022, will feature a larger ensemble cast than previous Thor films, but it will center on the titular character and his reunion with Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, who is set to receive her own God-like superpowers in the Marvel Phase 4 project.
But that’s beside the point. “What’s new about Thor: Love and Thunder?” you might wonder. Thor, Jane Foster, and Valkyrie will all be wearing new outfits in Thor 4, and the first teaser for the film might be out shortly. There’s also the possibility of another purported superhero cameo, so there’s a lot to catch up on.
But that’s not all you’ll discover down there. Our Thor: Love and Thunder website has all the details you’ll need to know about the film, including its release date, large cast, and more. There will be spoilers for several MCU films, particularly the past three Thor flicks.
Thor: Love and Thunder release date: July 8, 2022
The release date for Thor: Love and Thunder are presently slated for July 8, 2022. It was scheduled to be released on November 5, 2021, but the ongoing epidemic forced it to be postponed, as has been the case with many other cinema releases. It was then scheduled for release in May 2022, but that date was pushed back as Marvel Studios announced that all of its planned films will be delayed.
It will also have a limited theatrical release before being released on Disney Plus. However, knowing that Shang-Chi and Eternals didn’t get on the streaming site until 55 days after their initial release, it’ll be a bit before Thor 4 is available to watch at home.
Who is in the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder?
The following is a list of confirmed actors who will feature in the film:
- Chris Hemsworth as Thor
- Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie
- Natalie Portman as Doctor Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor

Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor, and several of his New Asgardian allies will appear with Odinson in the film.
Tessa Thompson returns as Valkyrie, while Taika Waititi reprises his role as want tobe revolutionary Korg in a performance capture outfit. Thor: Love and Thunder will also feature the Guardians of the Galaxy, which isn’t entirely surprising.
Thor was in the company of Marvel’s most adored band of jerks towards the end of Avengers: Endgame. So, in the fourth Thor movie, Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Vin Diesel (Groot), and Sean Gunn (Kraglin) are all back in action. Surprisingly, there’s no indication on whether Bradley Cooper’s film will be released.
After starring in Thor and its critically panned sequel Thor: The Dark Realm, Portman was absent from Ragnarok, with Thor spending the most of the film on the alien world of Sakaar. Now, in Thor: Love and Thunder, Porter will return in a far bigger capacity, with Foster clutching Thor’s enchanted hammer (called Mjolnir) and taking on the goddess of thunder mantle.
In January, a piece of alleged Marvel Studios concept art was released online (thanks for the tip, Reddit! ), giving us a glimpse of Jane’s goddess of thunder attire. Not only that, but it appears like Thor will be receiving some new threads as well. Valkyrie is, too, according to this photograph Thompson shared before deleting it.
Finally, MyTimeToShineHello, a well-known Marvel leaker, claims that Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was intended to make an appearance. However, it appears that this is no longer the case.
