OnePlus has announced that it will be launching the third smartphone under the Nord series within a month of launching the new OnePlus Nord CE 5G. Dubbed as the OnePlus Nord 2 5G, CEO Pete Lau has said that the smartphone will launch in India and Europe on July 22, 2021.
Here’s what to expect from the new OnePlus Nord 2 5G smartphone.
OnePlus is going to make huge changes.
OnePlus Nord 2 5G will be the first OnePlus phone with a MediaTek chipset and not Qualcomm Snapdragon.
OnePlus’ next smartphone in its mid-range Nord series is set to be the OnePlus Nord 2. After numerous reports of an expected launch this month, OnePlus India’s Twitter handle has now spilled the beans on the phone’s launch date.
A MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset will power the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. It will be the first OnePlus smartphone to not come with a Qualcomm chipset. The newly launched OnePlus Nord CE 5G runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G SoC.
In a recent teaser video shared by OnePlus India, the company has hinted towards a unique keynote for the Nord 2 5G launch on July 22. In a tweet the company said, “Coming July 22 to a device screen near you — an epic tale of Fast. And Smooth. And a new Nord to rule them all.”
In a recent blog, the company stated, “The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is a comprehensive upgrade from the first OnePlus Nord, from camera to performance to charging, as well as the newly AI-focused Dimensity 1200-AI SoC. We are confident that it delivers the dependable OnePlus fast and smooth experience you love, and lives up to the “Never Settle” ethos.”
What else we can expect about the OnePlus’ Nord 2 5G
The OnePlus Nord 2 design looks heavily inspired by the OnePlus 9 series. On the front, it has a punch-hole cutout for the selfie snapper and narrow bezels. The volume rocker is on the left, while the right side houses the power button and the alert slider. On the back, the OnePlus Nord 2 has a triple camera and an LED flash arranged in a rectangular module and a OnePlus logo.
The phone can be seen in Green color, but there could be other options at launch. The USB Type-C port, SIM tray, and speaker grille are at the bottom. However, there’s nothing on the top. The OnePlus Nord 2 is expected to measure 160 x 73.8 x 8.1mm (roughly) in dimensions.
The OnePlus Nord 2 is speculated to pack a 6.45-inch HD+ AMOLED screen with support for 90Hz. Under the hood, the smartphone is speculated to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor with 8GB of RAM and 128GB base storage. In addition, the OnePlus Nord 2 may be backed by a 4,500mAh battery.
As far as cameras are concerned, the device is said to feature a triple rear-facing camera set up headlined by a 50MP shooter along with 8MP and 2MP sensors. In addition, the device is expected to come with a 32MP front-facing shooter for all your selfie needs.
The Bottom Line
The phone is set to be officially unveiled on July 22 at 7:30 PM IST. The phone will go on sale via Amazon, and the e-commerce site has published a dedicated OnePlus Nord 2 page. The phone is set to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset and will improve the original OnePlus Nord. The device will run OxygenOS based on the Android 11 operating system, and software features will be similar to other OnePlus phones.
If reports are believed, the new OnePlus Nord 2 5G may start at Rs 29,999. There may be three RAM + storage variants of the OnePlus Nord 2 5G covering the price points of up to Rs 36,000
While OnePlus has not revealed much, the teasers hint that the upcoming Nord 2 smartphone will sport minimal bezels and it could offer stereo speakers as well. The original model offered a single speaker at the bottom. The device is also expected to pack a alert slider.
