How to block a phone number on Pixel?
If a call comes in from a number that is not in your contact list but is not a known spam number, you will typically see a pop-up asking if you want to accept, screen, or answer the call. The call will go to voicemail if you hang up. If you screen the call, you will be able to see the caller’s words as text on your display. From there, you can decide whether to accept the call, decline it, or leave an automated message.
Once the call has ended, you can block it if you want to.
How to block a phone number on Samsung?
Samsung’s phone app, called Smart Call, provides basic spam detection. Open the phone app, select Settings from the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen, and then select Caller ID and spam protection to enable it. By turning on the feature, you can also block spam calls and calls from numbers that are not in your contacts. You can either block all spam and scam calls or just the ones that pose a high risk. You must accept the terms of Hiya, a service used by Samsung, in order to use this feature.
Call screening is not yet a feature offered by Samsung, but it might be. In some regions, Bixby Text Call is now available with One UI 5, but it only supports Korean. Similar to Google’s feature, this one transcribes what the caller is saying and lets you respond by text-to-voice as well. Early in 2023, according to Samsung, an English version is scheduled. You will need to screen calls in the interim by sending them to voicemail and determining whether they are worth your time.
Call Blocking
Here’s how to block a call if you want to do so after you’ve hung up.
Pixel
- Access the Phone or Contacts apps.
- Find the person you want to block by searching for them. (If it was a recent call from an unknown number, you can locate it in your Phone app’s Recents tab.)
- Long-press the phone number when you’re on that person’s page.
- When using the Phone app, choose Block/report spam; when using the Contacts app, choose Block number. You will be informed that you won’t receive calls or texts from that number in either case. Check the box to mark it as spam if you wish.
- When you are prepared, choose Block.
Samsung
On a Samsung phone, the procedure is very comparable.
- Access the Phone or Contacts apps.
- Find the person you want to block by searching for them. (If it was a recent call from an unknown number, you can locate it in your Phone app’s Recents tab.)
- Long-press the phone number and select Block number from the Contacts tab of the Phone app or the Contacts app itself.
- Tap the number, then tap the information icon to expand the entry in the Recents tab of your Phone app. At the bottom of the screen, there are separate buttons for blocking and reporting the number.
That’s it; you shouldn’t get any more calls from that number moving forward. Of course, if the caller is persistent, they might call you from a different number. Nevertheless, hopefully, they will eventually tire of being blocked and leave.
