I am sure you are also a fan of Mortal Kombat; NetherRealm Studios — the Chicago-based, Warner Bros-owned developer behind Injustice and Mortal Kombat — is reportedly working on a Super Smash Bros-style game. Unfortunately, the report comes from an anonymous source on a Reddit burner account, which usually isn’t worth paying attention to. Still, not long after the news surfaced, a trademark from Warner Bros. for “Multiverses” appeared. Suffice to say, and the report now has the Internet’s attention.
“The new Netherrealm Game is a Warner Bros. Crossover Platform Fighter Yes. New IP technically,” reads the leak. “It is based off Smash Bros (and now Nickelodeon All-Stars, but this was in the works before Nickelodeon was even announced). It’s a Tag Team game. Not sure if that means you pick two characters and switch between them. Or if each ‘character’ is actually a pair, or if each character is an individual and you only switch when you lose a stock. All I know is there’s synergy between certain characters, which implies custom teams.”
The leak continues by naming a few characters in the game, including Shaggy, Gandalf, Tom & Jerry, Batman, Fred Flintsone, Mad Max, Johnny Bravo, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. That said, it sounds like Harry and Ron may not end up being in the game due to licensing issues.

“I was told that the origin of this game was actually due to the memes based around Shaggy getting into Mortal Kombat Reboot Streaming Date seriously Revealed Now. Mortal Kombat in his’ “Ultra Instinct’ form. Unfortunately, the nether realm wasn’t going to put him in a game like Mortal Kombat, so I tossed ideas around, and Warner Bros. loved the idea of combining their properties and establishing more Warner crossovers. As you saw in Space Jam 2.”
The leaker concludes by noting they have no clue when the game is revealed but claims it’s been in development for “a while,” and thus, a reveal at The Game Awards 2021 in December is undoubtedly on the table.
NetherRealm Studios has kept relatively quiet since it announced that active development on Mortal Kombat 11 had ceased. Because Injustice 2 left on a wide cliffhanger and based upon NetherRealm’s history of franchise title releases being hand-in-hand with one another, fans had assumed that a third Injustice installment would be in development next.
However, a rumor has surfaced that is out of the left field for NetherRealm, and it has yet to be confirmed or denied. Regardless, the supposed leaker has accumulated in-depth detail about NetherRealm’s alleged next title, which will almost certainly come as a surprise to fans of the studio if it eventually proves to be true.
Posting from a “burner account,” hugeleakeractually claims that NetherRealm’s next game, potentially titled Multiverses, will be a tag-based platform-fighter with characters from a wide variety of franchises and cartoons, such as The Lord of the Rings’ Gandalf and The Flintstones’ Fred Flintstone. Admittedly, this rumored leak sounds like a crazy assortment of franchises and fighting game mechanics. But though the leaker states that their sources are kept secret due to privacy and safety concerns, hugeleakeractually appears to support the leak’s authenticity confidently.
Harry Potter and Ron Weasley are allegedly considered for the game. However, hugeleakeractually states that it may have been a joke, or they heard they might not make it into the game due to Warner Bros. licensing issues. Further, hugeleakeractually provides a link to a supposed trademark for Multiversus under Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc., though even hugeleakeractually is uncertain whether that trademark is for the same IP or not.
Multiversus’ fighting game grab-bag and the details supporting its existence have yet to be substantiated by any reputable sources, however. As such, until other announcements are made that corroborate it, the leak should only be observed as a rumor at this point.
